THE STRAITS FINERY

The Straits Finery was born in Malaysia in 2015, surrounded by lush tropical forests, beaches and rich multicultural heritage. Co-founders Amira and Chern take inspiration from their culture and environs to create timeless everyday jewellery in 14-karat solid gold that are elegant in design and versatility. With ease and authenticity at the core of its design philosophy, the clean designs fit seamlessly into the personal style of every woman. The personal creativity of each wearer is celebrated as the minimalist pieces can be worn individually for quiet sophistication or layered together to create a subtle statement.

THE METALS

We believe in creating high quality jewellery that can be passed down from mother to daughter so we set our sights in creating pieces that are personal, sentimental and forever. And it is for this reason, that all our pieces are handmade in small quantities by skilled artisans in our precious metals of choice.

14-karat gold is used as our central metal as it is extremely hardy and does not tarnish. Back in the day, 14k gold was a favourite of our grandmothers and of that generation as it was tough enough to be worn all day every day without the risk of it scratching and bending out of shape. It was practical and we liked that. Not to mention its tone and lustre matches perfectly with all skin tones.

THE FOUNDERS

Amira and Chern met at a quaint little school in Penang, on a small island along the Straits of Malacca. Growing up by the sand and sea taught them to embrace simplicity while their appreciation for jewellery came from watching their mothers style themselves with beautiful heirloom pieces passed from generations. This combination became the inspiration to launch The Straits Finery in 2015 as they sought to create a line of contemporary jewellery that was exciting yet simple in form; something that was true to their roots.

Foo Chia Chern
Chern was an advertising girl who then became a marketing woman and then a mom; but an appreciation for design in all its form was always in her heart. The call to create urged her to take a leap of faith to begin the start of an amazing journey. She learnt to design and craft the pieces herself in order to better understand the process of creation and materials. She also had to learn the art of managing a business and to juggle life as a parent and co-girlboss.

Amira Yahaya
Amira likes talking to people and decided to make full use of it. She was and still is in Consumer Insights, with a curiosity of everything that surrounds us and the story behind each being and behaviour.  Having grown up with an appreciation for the arts, it was only natural that it includes fashion and the overall aesthetic of a woman. She has since learnt to make use of some old maths skills and has a great appreciation for the art of storytelling.
